“At QFS, the Health and Safety of our people will always come first. We also believe developing environmentally sustainable business practices is a vital step toward increasing our competitive advantage, and value proposition.”
More than ever, our customers in New Zealand and abroad are making decisions about what products to buy not just based on cost and quality, but also other factors including how eco-friendly they are.
With a strong export base QFS have always understood the value of sourcing the inputs for our business from within New Zealand, where possible. Our frozen pastry, croissants and sauces, are made with New Zealand grown wheat flour, butter and ethically sourced ingredients.
High quality pastry flour comes from the fertile plains of Canterbury in New Zealand’s South Island, traceable back to the field where it is grown. Butter from cows raised on the rich pastures of New Zealand. Margarine made from either grass fed NZ cattle, which is Palm Free; or, from imported vegetable oils produced sustainably.
Other inclusions and ingredients are ethically sourced and traceable to their origins.
Reducing or eliminating plastic where possible has also been a priority. One example is switching our Foodservice pastry roll ‘plastic interleave’ to a sustainably produced recyclable paper. This switch has eliminated around 400km of single use plastic from the environment in NZ.
We aim to use cartons made from 100% recycled materials where possible. Our pastry rolls in NZ have recently switched across, with 1,000’s of cartons now utilising ‘recycled cardboard’.
More changes to come as we look for economic options to migrate from plastic to paper based, sustainable options. We are also working closely with our suppliers, asking them to do the same to reduce waste and our combined carbon footprints.
Food safety and quality assurance practices are at the core of our manufacturing practices, as validated by our FSSC, Dairy RMP, and frequent audits by our international customers.
Rigorous internal quality assurance programme ensures the products we sell to you are of the highest standard. This is ever evolving to meet the demands of New Zealand and International markets as a premium food manufacturing facility.
Our health and safety record is second to none, and is the number one concern at our manufacturing facility. Dedicated staff review their work areas and seek to uncover any risk that staff could be exposed to, and subsequently reduce or eliminate it.
